One of Ghana's largest mobile networks, MTN, has informed
its customers of price increases for data bundle purchases beginning on
February 7, 2023. I'm here to clarify for everyone who might be perplexed by
the rate at which MTN WILL be raising the cost to buy a data package.
Let's say you buy the 3 cedis package for 471.70MB every
day; starting on the 7th of this month, the 3 cedis you buy will cost you 15%
more. One will pay 3.075 instead of 3 cedis for the bundle because 15% of 3
cedis is equal to 0.075.
MTN provided an explanation for the 15% rise in data bundle
costs in a text message delivered earlier today. MTN claimed that it was
because operating costs had increased.
Do you believe that MTN made the right decision to raise the
price of their data bundles? Should users transfer to other networks as a
result of this change?
